![]() I don’t have a dryer, so I let it fluff up for a day before using it. Michael Breus, PhD, a clinical psychologist also known as the Sleep Doctor, says adjustability is one of the most important features of pillows for side sleepers (along with width, because side sleepers can fall off the edge of the pillow when flipping from side to side).Ĭoop advises throwing the pillow in the dryer with a dryer sheet for 10 to 15 minutes or letting it fluff up for 24 hours. The company also says that those who reliably switch positions can stuff one side of the pillow higher than the other for maximum comfort. It’s also adjustable, so if the loft isn’t perfect, you can take out some filling to make it thinner, or add some, which the company includes with your pillow order, to make it taller. ![]() When I fell asleep on my side, the Coop supported my head and kept it aligned with my spine when I shifted to my back, it shifted a bit with me, thus preventing my head from being bent forward, toward my chest. It’s relatively firm and even a bit heavy, unlike the Pillow Cube, which is has a more solid, springy texture. I’m not being hyperbolic when I say that with the Coop, I had one of my most comfortable nights in recent memory. The Coop, which is made of a blend of cross-cut memory foam and microfiber, is such a pillow. Pillows with a looser style of filling can adapt better to different sleeping positions.” ![]() “I recommend pillows that contain shredded foam or feathers (or mixes) for people that shift around a lot-but be careful because some of these pillow types can lack enough fill to support side sleepers with broad shoulders. But movers like me might find that foam pillows, while offering excellent support for side sleepers, “are tough to adjust to your shifting,” says Chris Regan, who oversees mattress and pillow testing at CR. Folks who tend to stick to side sleeping through the night may have success with the Pillow Cube or another solid foam pillow like the Comfort Revolution, which rates highly in Consumer Reports’ tests.

This doesn't sound like it should need a lot of guidance or creativity (but rather a ton of experience and ear training).Īs I mentioned my goal is not to get a perfect result but to get a good enough one so that for now I can focus my energy on improving other aspects of my music production. Maybe I'm wrong but my understanding is that 99% of the creative choices happen before the mastering, in the composition and the mixing, and mastering is mostly fine tuning to make final adjustments to the dynamic range and EQ and such and ensure the track will sound good on any sound system. According to their site LANDR already goes a step farther by analyzing the track and finding similar ones to do a similar mastering job. i'll stop ramblingīut I don't know what I'd say to an engineer other than "make it sound better plz". Take it with a grain of salt and preferably wait for some audio engineers to chime in here. The algorithms were built by analyzing (hundreds of) thousands of tracks.LANDR is constantly self-learning from the data we gather by new users sending us tracks and improvements are rolled out regularly. It actually doesn't work on presets but uses the same approach to big data and kind of feature analysis that fuels things like music recommendations systems (Pandora) or music identification systems (Shazam) matched to a big data set to determine the mastering parameters. The engine responds to each different track in a different way-It's not template or preset based. Some guy that works for LANDR said in a previous thread ![]() so there might be some sort of improvement to the website That being said, apparently the algorithm learns the more the system is being used. Seems like the general consensus is that it's a bit disappointing, and that fixed tracks via LANDR weren't an improvement at all. There's been quite a lot of discussion on this previously on this subreddit (I know using this won't be as good as paying a professional for it, but until I get better at the other parts of production I don't think it would be worth for me to pay a pro anyways, and a decent mastering for a decent price would be a quick win and allow me to stop wasting energy on this for now :) ) Has anyone tried this service? I'd be super interested to hear in particular if any audio engineer gave it a try and has thoughts on it? It seems to do a decent job from the free test, but the same way I feel unable to master my own tracks, I don't trust my ears to decide whether this is a good mastering job. So I started looking for options to master my tracks without spending a fortune and found. And really I'm not that interested in learning how to get better at it as I'd rather spend my time working on improving other aspects like my composition or mixing skills. Even if you decide to pay month to month, those mastering credits roll over, so you can get 36 fully mastered WAVs per year, which is probably more than enough for your average hobbyist.I suck at mastering my own tracks, I have some idea of the tools to use and how to proceed but feel like I don't have the ear training required to make good mastering decisions. Yearly subscribers also get a host of third-party VSTs from companies like Arturia, Audiothing, Cableguys and Baby Audio and get unlimited mastering. For $20 a month, or $150 for the year you get 20 sample credits per month, access to the company's FX suite, its Chromatic sample instrument, DAW streaming and collaboration tools, three WAV masters a month, unlimited MP3 masters and unlimited distribution to services like Spotify and Apple Music. LANDR Studio aims to be an end-to-end solution that can take your musical project through its entire journey from creation to release. LANDR is now bring all of those disparate tools together under one plan that also includes unlimited access to its well-regarded AI-powered mastering service. So the most important goal for LANDR is to create a master that will sound good anywhere. If you're a music maker, chances are you've signed up for a music distribution service like DistoKid, maybe you have a subscription to a sample depot like Splice, and even pay monthly for an instrument like Output's Arcade. A good master should translate across a variety of playback systems. Meat sharing among the Gombe chimpanzees: Harassment and reciprocal exchange. In the end, chimpanzees hunt for selfish reasons, and they don’t always like to share. Finally, he will give them some meat just to be left alone. Other chimps have to beg and harass him to share. This means that individuals will cooperate during hunting to improve their own chances of getting meat.Ĭhimps use information about many things to decide when to cooperate: What is the forest like? How hard will it be to follow the monkeys? Can I catch one on my own? How much energy do I have? Who else is in my group? Are they good hunters?Įven when a chimp catches a monkey, he doesn’t always like to share. Meat provides important nutrients for chimps that are rare in plants. Humans and chimpanzees both hunt animals for meat. One of the earliest and most significant discoveries made by Jane Goodall was that chimpanzees hunt for and eat meat. 33 prey per year during a 10-year period. Jane Goodall’s original tale of chimpanzees still astonishes today National Geographic revisits Jane Goodall’s iconic 1963 article about the chimpanzees of Gombe Stream Game Reserve. Today, researchers study how chimpanzees cooperate with each other during hunting and other activities. One community of chimpan- zees in Gombe Stream was observed to hunt. Like humans, chimpanzees hunt other animals and even go to war with other chimp groups. When Jane Goodall went to study chimpanzees at Gombe, she learned that this wasn’t true. Researchers used to think that humans were the only primates that were violent. This monkey is now lunch for the chimpanzees. Most of them escape, but one isn’t so lucky. More than 45 years ago, primatologist Jane Goodall observed wild chimpanzees making and using tools a finding that dramatically changed the field of primate research. One of the chimps starts climbing up the tree. Suddenly, the air is filled with high-pitched chirps and squeaks-alarm calls! A group of chimpanzees has appeared below the monkeys’ tree. They jump from tree to tree to find the tastiest leaves. JGIs conservation efforts have been focused around Gombe National Park and western Tanzania, where Jane Goodall first started studying chimpanzees in 1960. The hedger draws a low amount of battery charge. We took into account the hedgers ability to allow the average person to maneuver and lift the tool around trees from a couple of feet up to about seven feet tall. They were harder branches and were a good test for the ability of the trimmer to cut through tougher, dried branches. There were several flowering bushes that had wilted and dried out on account of winter. Some shrubs are evergreen, so we were able to test the trimmer on its hedge-shaping ability. The time of the test was early December in the northeast United States at the end of fall and the onset of winter. We tested the EGO hedge trimmer in an average 1-acre yard with shrubs, small trees, and flowering plants. ![]() Thus, for a reasonably sized lawn (half to 2 acres), a cordless battery powered hedge trimmer is the perfect choice. Even a small (2 to 3 Ah) battery gives you an hour plus of trimming time. Unlike leaf blowers, hedge trimmers don’t use up significant battery power. The most convenient electric trimmers are battery operated, like the EGO model reviewed here (HT2410). However, you will need a 50 to 100-foot outdoor extension cord that you will have to lug around with you. Corded electric models are the cheapest while still giving you a great cut. Electric Hedge TrimmersĮlectric hedge trimmers are becoming the most popular option for home garden and lawn use. Clearly, if you have a multi-acre property or are a professional landscaper, gas-powered garden tools are the most obvious choices. Gas powered hedge trimmers are powerful and usually come at the upper end of performance and cutting ability. There are many options for the home gardener here, so let’s take a look at what those are briefly. If you get the model with the battery and charger (HT2411), the box will also include a 2.5 Ah rechargeable battery with a 56 V charger.Ī power hedge trimmer is the most efficient tool for cutting off excess plant growth. In the box you get the electric hedge trimmer (with a protective casing around the blade) and the user manual. The version we tested and reviewed came with the tool only (Model HT2410). ![]() What Comes In The Box ( EGO Tool And Charger) There were also several evergreen bushes and Christmas trees on which we were able to test the ability of the hedger to give us a neat, manicured look. But the branches that needed cutting still had some life in them and were resistant enough to put this trimmer to the test. The leaves and flowers from most trees had fallen off. We tested the EGO hedge trimmer in a late fall yard that is approximately one acre. How We Tested The EGO Power Hedge Trimmer Blades are typically some form of stainless steel so there is not much to consider here. Something that cuts up to one inch of branch would be recommended otherwise you may get stuck when trimming back heavy bushes. Cutting capacity or the thickness of the tree branch the trimmer is capable of cutting is another thing to consider. If you want to work your way around the yard efficiently, we recommend something around 22 to 24 inches in length. Hedge trimmer blades come in at around 16 to 26 inches.
